The Password Station (http://password.csuchico.edu/) is used to maintain your password for both of these systems.

Note: PeopleSoft  and IFAS (Foundation) are still separate logins.

Computer Support (Top)

User Services provides support at no charge for state owned computers and computers purchased with federal grant dollars.  Computers purchased with non-federal grants are not supported (for free).  Support is limited to specific computers models and software.  See : https://wiki.csuchico.edu/confluence/display/usrvkb/Supported+Software

Software (Top)

The CSU has a site license for:

  • MS Office products (including FrontPage & Publisher) and these can be loaded on your desktop computer by User Services.  Note User Service does not support all office products (like Front Page) and you will need to request that they be loaded.
  • The campus also has a license for McAffee Anti-virus software and User Services should load this automatically.
  • SPSS is also available at no charge.
  • CSU also has site licenses for ArcView, contact the Geographic Information Center (GIC).

Some products like Adobe Acrobat and Dreamweaver (supported by User Services) are available at discounted prices at the bookstore. See additional information at: http://www.csuchico.edu/usrv/software/PurchasingAgreements.shtml

Vista (WebCT) (Top)

Avoid the Portal and use the direct login: http://vista.csuchico.edu You can save this as a shortcut on your desktop or as a favorite.

Technology & Learning Program (TLP)

WebCT support for both the technology and pedagogy. See: http://www.csuchico.edu/tlp/ The have a lab in the library basement staffed with helpful folks to solve your Vista issues. Their web site has useful tips and tutorials.

WebDAV

WebDAV is a method of connecting to the Vista server which allows you to treat a course like a remote hard drive.  The big benefit to this is the ability to drag and drop files into a course (much quicker to update and add files this way).  In Vista choose the File Manager option on the course menu (Build Tab).  Drop down the menu next to "File Manager".  Choose "Open as Web Folder" to open the course folder.  The option "View WebDAV info" will give you the network address to set the folder up as a network drive in Windows Explorer.

Vista Support

A number of support documents are available at:

Email (Top)

Sending Email to Students in a Class

A well kept secret is the group alias that is created for each course you teach.  This allows you to send out an email to the students wildcat account.  Address your email to: SECTION_dept_course_section@section.csuchico.edu  See: http://www.csuchico.edu/usrv/email/classlist.shtml  for more information.  NOTE: Students not using their wildcat account should forward wildcat email to the account that they check regularly.

Spam Filtering

The campus email system marks suspected spam and places it in a special folder.  A daily digest is mailed to each user daily.   See: http://www.csuchico.edu/usrv/email/spam/index.shtml for more information on how this works.
