General Advice to Incoming Freshman
  1. Review your degree requirements (see link above).
  2. Use the Major Academic Plan (MAP) as a guide for planning your classes.  NOTE:  Do this using Smart Planner, see link in your student center.
  3. Sign up for AGRI 180 your first semester.  This 1 unit class will help you get started at Chico State.
  4. Sign up for your G.E. first, but allow for at least one or two Ag classes per semester. Getting the G.E. out of the way is important, but taking a Ag class will keep you in contact with students and faculty in your major.
  5. Plan out each semester to make sure that the courses you need are offered the semester you want to take them.  Use prior semester class schedules to determine likely course times.
  6. Review your plan with your advisor!

General Advice to Incoming Community College Transfer Students
  1. Review your degree requirements (see link above).
  2. Use http://www.assist.org (see links above) to determine which courses you have taken count for the specific lower division courses listed in the Major Academic Plan (MAP).  Ag courses you have taken that are not listed on Assist may count as lower division elective Ag classes, see your advisor.
  3. Sign up for AGRI 180 your first semester.  This 1 unit class will help you get started at Chico State.
  4. Sign up for any lower division required courses you need to take FIRST as they may be pre-requisites for upper division courses. Remember even if your G.E. is complete you may still need specific courses at Chico (e.g. MATH 005).
  5. Plan out each semester to make sure that the courses you need are offered the semester you want to take them.  Use prior semester class schedules to determine likely course times.
  6. Review your plan with your advisor!

Some general information:

  • You can transfer courses with numbers < 100 to a CSU.
  • You can transfer up to 70 units from a Community College to CSUC.  However not all these courses may be used to satisfy your degree requirement.
  • If your GE is complete when you transfer, then you need only take 3 upper division G.E. courses (9 units) at CSUC.  However, you may still need to take some specific lower division courses to satisfy the requirements for your major. Some common examples are Chemistry and Statistics.  You may take other courses to satisfy the G.E. requirements in this area, but you will still need to take these courses for the major.
  • Courses that articulate on Assist count for the exact course at CSUC.  Often you may use courses that are not articulated with CSUC as lower division elective courses (counting the units toward your major requirements), see your advisor.
  • You catalog year may be the year you started Community College or the current catalog.  Catalog year will effect the degree requirements.
